Chapter 1
In Chapter 1, the story starts off by introducing us to William, Ellie and Gavin. I the beginning, you can find that William doesn't... let's just say he doesn't really like his older brother Gavin. Gavin is described as a big mean bully but Ellie, a girl around William's age who is suppose to marry Gavin, because he is the eldest. Though Ellie doesn't enjoy Gavin's company, she finds it difficult to hate him after the INCIDENT (Dramatic music please.) The "Incident" was actually Gavin as a little boy going through a terrible loss, his dog. Ellie found him crying over his dog and she felt bad. He saw Ellie watching and told her to go away and got super mad (Explains the big bully part). But when Ellie comes back to retrieve the corpse from the river she found him right next to her. About a month later, she finds a wooden dog in her by her pillow which she suspects is from Gavin. Going back to the main story! The chapter continues to explain how William was called "a pea on a dragon" when he had got on a big Great Horse, he was also pushed in to a horses bathtub by Gavin. Wanting one, even though he had Sacramenta, he decides to ask his Father, Sir Thomas, to let him have his own Great Horse. Though it is the beginning of the book, we can find strong, sibling rivalry which could mean it will have a big impact on the rest of the story.
Chapter 2
In the next chapter, when Ellie and William come to the dining room, Gavin explains why he pushed William and why he called him names and says he needs time to go "cool off." This shows another example of sibling rivalry. Sir Thomas then allows William to go find himself a Great Horse after hearing William's big remark of how Sacramenta isn't strong enough for tournaments and such.
Chapter 3-4
In chapters 3-4, this basically explains how William ended up choosing his Great Horse. Being all excited (YOOHOO! :)) William goes to Keeper John to find himself his own Great Horse. He finds a big, strong horse and decides to go for a ride when... DUH DUH DUHH! He finds Hosanna, a small red horse. Infact, Sacramenta's son. Right when William's gaze lands on Hosanna, he felt a strong connection between them and wants Hosanna. Keeper John tries to stop him but there's no going back for William! Once William rides him, he feels Hosanna is his horse and chooses him as his Great Horse.
Chapter 5
In Chapter 5, William takes Hosanna to Sir Thomas and Sir Thomas, though he isn't pleased, has William keep Hosanna. Then, he meets Gavin and they decide to have a little competition. Another example of sibling rivalry. Eventually William wins and shows how Hosanna is a swift, elegant horse.
